Home Mission

homemission image'Every Church is a Home Mission Church' says the latest publicity from the Baptist Union of Great Britain - what does this mean for Willingham Baptist? Well it reinforces the fact that we are part of a growing denomination which has at its heart a passion to see Christ represented and proclaimed throughout the UK. In simple terms Home Mission is a central fund administered by the Baptist Union which is then used to resource the denomination in all kinds of creative ways. The headline use of the fund is to enable UK Baptist Churches who could not, by themselves, afford to employ a full-time minister to do just that, employ a full-time worker. This can make a huge difference to the life of a local church and often makes that vital difference in the turning around of a struggling church. Every local church in the Baptist Union is asked to consider making an annual contribution to the fund which in turn is used to resource the denomination in many ways. This annual contribution is currently set at about £35 per church member.

'Every Church is a Home Mission Church'?

Absolutely, and we're well aware of that here in Willingham. Our recent history shows that we have greatly benefitted from Home Mission, and continue to do so. This benefit is particularly apparent in the support we receive from our Regional Association (Eastern Baptist Association)  and from the wide range of services provided to us through the Baptist Union of Great Britain. As part of our ongoing commitment to mission we enthusiastically support Home Mission year by year.

A Home Mission Success Story! bugbmagjun06

Between 1995 and 2001 all of our Church Ministers were supported by Home Mission funding and during this time the church has seen significant growth. Revd David Auger was supported by Home Mission throughout his ministry at Willingham Baptist from 1990-94. Revd Maurice Whittaker was supported by Home Mission for the duration of his ministry here from 1995-98. In 1999, our current Minister, Revd Jonathon Daniel, was called to the church with the support of a Home Mission Grant and within two years the church was able to fund his ministry entirely by themselves (with God's provision, intervention and inspiration!). The Home Mission funding the church had been receiving was then released to be used elsewhere. A real Home Mission success story!
